Rough play led to the drowning of a Baffin bear, Calgary Zoo officials said. Bear, Siku, 8, and Baffin, seven, were splashing around in a pool on Friday morning in front of visitors when Baffin drowned and did not come out.
said Colleen Baird, the zoo’s director of animal care. “(Visitors) were saying, ‘How long will the bear hold its breath?»» Siku and Baffin are from Churchill, Manitoba.
Both were orphaned before the age of one – a condition in which children do not survive. Black said that Siku, the smaller of the two bears, is a good watcher but also eating and behaving well.
