Iryna Zarutska was a 23-year-old Ukrainian woman tragically killed in a stabbing on a light rail train in Charlotte, NC, on August 22, 2025.
Surveillance video released by Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) shows her sitting on the train in front of her accused killer, Decarlos Brown, who suddenly stabbed her multiple times in the neck.
The video captures the moments before, during, and immediately after the attack, including bystanders’ reactions and the suspect covering his bloodied hand before leaving the train.
Brown was later arrested and charged with first-degree murder. This incident has sparked safety concerns about public transit in the area
